Betty, Australia
Dear Partygirl,
Every time I go out to party my parents whinge. What's up with them?

Partygirl reply:

Dear Betty,

I'm not sure that 'whinge' is descriptive enough for me to draw proper conclusions, but here are some 'guidelines' that might help.

Most parents enjoy watching their children enjoy themselves and would like their children to have a good time.  Most parents are also aware that there are potential dangers in the over-use of alcohol, drug taking and hanging out in the same nightspot every week.

Some simple steps to protect yourself and put your parent's mind at ease:
1) Always buy your own drinks unless you know the other person very well
2) If you have to do drugs, be very careful and do it in moderation - keep control!
3) Enjoy alcoholic drinks but again, moderation is the key.
4) Stay home one full week every month.  If you can't do that, you're close to hooked.
5) Always go out with someone you can trust
6) Go out together, go home together

This list is not complete, but you'll find your parents a lot more at ease if you show an understanding of the basic rules...
